Position Summary: This position will oversee the day-to-day safety of a manufacturing and agriculture operation in the Southern Central Florida area. This position consists of a combination field and office work.
In this role, you will provide day to day health and safety support to manufacturing and farm operations, ensuring all practices are complying. This role will aid with occupational injuries and investigations, safety training, safety inspections and all related safety areas. The Safety Manager oversees and executes safety training schedules and training materials as required.
- Training the workforce in safe work practices as well as developing and maintaining a safe and effective work environment.
- Provides support and guidance to the operations team on safety compliance.
- Ensure implementation and compliance with the Company’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. Draft and revise safety policies as needed and oversee distribution to applicable employees and contractors. Develop and implement annual safety action plan.
- Deliver ongoing and effective safety training for employees. Serve as management trainer – teach and hold managers accountable for safety training and consulting with their employees.
- Develop Tailgate Training curriculum for supervisors & managers specific to injury/near miss trends.
- Ensures contractors follow all safety and equipment work practices.
- Oversees the site Safety Training Plan.
- Conducts routine safety and health walk-through inspections of the workplace.
- Conducts, monitors, and documents safety trainings
- Conducts accident and injury investigations under the direction of the Director of Operations, to determine the casual factors and a safe plan of action.
- Maintains all required safety documents and files in the HR department safety file section.
- Conduct regular, comprehensive on-site safety assessments with detailed reports, give feedback to site supervisors and monitor corrective actions being taken.
- Cultivate an engaged and informed safety culture
- Conduct job hazard analysis
- Conducts all new hire and annual refresher safety training
- Review any contractor’s and/or subcontractor’s site safety plans prior to starting work on company property.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support and improve the overall safety of the operation.
- Maintain a good working knowledge of current safety regulations and serve as a resource to management and employees on interpretation and compliance.
- Continuously examine work sites to identify hazards in the workplace. Updating the site safety plan to reflect the new hazard and how to mitigate it. Then retrain employees of the new hazard and how they are to manage it.
- Continuously monitor employees making sure they are conducting daily equipment inspections and documenting accordingly.
- Engage and influence management to help develop their responsibility and leadership in safety in their locations. Assist site supervisors with contract safety questions and compliance paperwork. Input all computer and paperwork needed for contractor safety and compliance.
- Must have a good understanding of DOT safety guidelines with the capability of training fleet operators in routine driving safety.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years proven experience in a safety management role working in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Agriculture Safety preferred
- Spanish Bi-lingual a plus
- Must enjoy working outdoors
- Must have strong organization skills
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, FRA and other relevant regulations.
- Strong understanding of workers compensation laws
- Ability to deliver safety training programs
- Excellent report writing skills
- Must hold a trainer’s certification in Forklifts, Manlifts and Earth Moving Equipment
- Have exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to always lead by example
- Must have working experience with Microsoft Office (word, excel, & power point)
- CPR/First Aid certification required
- Certified in Worker’s Protection Standards (or able to obtain within 90 days of starting this position)
- Must be able to manage safety programs at multiple job sites.
- Must have a teamwork mentality.
Requirements: This is a 1099 contract position. The candidate must be willing and able to carry a $500,000.00 professional liability insurance policy.
